When Rain Falls written by Melissa Stewart, illustrated by Constance R. Bergum ~ GIVEAWAY

About Book

We go inside when the rain comes down, but where do animals go? That depends on the kind of animal and where it lives. Bees hide in hives and ants stay safe in underground nests. Squirrels pull their long bushy tails over their heads like umbrellas. Caterpillars crawl under leaves. This new book for young readers offers a first glimpse at how different animals in different habitats behave during a thunderstorm. In simple, easy-to-understand language, veteran childrens book author Melissa Stewart takes a lyrical look at the behavior of animals in forests, fields, wetlands, and deserts and briefly describes how each creature interacts with its rained-soaked environment. Constance Bergums soft, watercolor paintings colorfully depict the animals and special features of each habitat. Individual sidebar and panel illustrations provide close-up details of the natural world.

My Thoughts

Have you ever wondered about where all of the creatures of the forest, wetlands, deserts and fields go when it rains?  I know when it starts to rain I want to be indoors.  Squirrels have there own built in umbrella.   All a hawk has to do is fluff up their feathers and they are protected from the rain.  Ducks don't bother to get out of the rain because they have an oily coat on their feathers that make the rain just slide off of them.

The author has provided some fun facts about the creatures that live outdoors that will have your child looking at the creatures in a new way.  I only touched on a few of the creatures that are mentioned in this book.  There is so much more to learn and they will want to share this new knowledge with their friends. The illustrations leave no confusion as to what the creatures look like and their surrounding natural habitats.

I highly recommend this book for children, parents, grandparents, caregivers, librarians, homeschoolers, teachers and educators.  The very young and old will enjoy this book.

I rated this book a 5 out of 5.
