RAINING CATS and DOGS TOUR MAN vs CAT by David M. Brown

About Book

History has known many famous cats - Garfield, Mr Bigglesworth, Simon's Cat, the Aristocats, the Cheshire Cat and the Keyboard Cat on YouTube.

In recent years these feline things have replaced man's best friend as the most popular pet in the U.S. while the Ancient Egyptians once worshiped them as gods. This was a mistake and I'm here to tell you why.

Man vs Cat is the story of one man, one woman and the six cats that changed their lives forever. To the woman they brought love and affection, to the man they brought sleepless nights, fear, paranoia and even ruined his jigsaw. Need I say more?

Interview with Author David Brown

Q. Do you actually like cats?

It depends on the circumstances. If they’re sleeping, quiet or well-behaved then I do like cats a lot. If they’re not, I often struggle to cope with them. I am your typical downtrodden cat owner.

Q. Do you have a cat?

I have six cats. Don’t ask me how or why I came to own six cats. I think the conversation with my wife went something like, “I want a cat,” “I’m not sure about a cat, love,” “I really think it would be a good idea to get a cat,” “You know what, I think we should get a cat.” We started with 2 cats, then adopted a third, a fourth and then two more to take us to six.

Q. Why did you write about cats?

I had never owned cats before meeting my wife, Donna, so I started blogging about their behaviour in 2010, partly to amuse others and partly as a coping mechanism for myself. Eventually, my ramblings were collected two years later to contribute to Man vs Cat.

Q. Where can our children learn from reading your book?

I’m not sure some of the cats’ antics would be suitable for children’s eyes but I think parents can take from the book that cats are great pets to have, though quite often selfish ones. Dogs are loyal and stick by you throughout the day, while cats are affectionate too but it is always on their terms. If you can accept that then I think they are good pets to have.

Q. What has been your favorite part of your author journey so far?

Publishing my first book in May 2011 was a special moment, coupled with the first positive review I received. When those two events came to pass, the reality of being a writer finally hit home. I think when you get a reader coming back and expressing what your book means to them, well, I don’t think it gets much better than that.

Q. Which inspires you to write?

I’m a very shy person, not especially talkative, and have always found writing is the way I express myself the best. I find inspiration most often in films, books and music. History books have been integral to building many of my stories but songs have an impact on me too. A song I’ve listened to dozens of times before may strike me at a certain moment and from there an idea is born and begins to flourish. I never know when to expect ideas. It’s always a surprise when they come along and a very pleasant one.

Q. What’s your favorite quote?

This is a difficult one. I do have a fondness for Albert Einstein’s tribute to Mahatma Gandhi when the great man was assassinated in 1948. Einstein said, “Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this, ever in flesh and blood, walked upon this earth.” It’s hard to find words to pay tribute to those that are lost to us but I think Einstein captured the moment beautifully here.

Q. What’s next for you?

I’m currently working on Ansel’s Remorse, the third book in my fantasy series The Elencheran Chronicles. After that, I’m returning to the six cats with a particular focus on Charlie who is going to explore 100 novels and offer his feedback on each of them. It should be interesting.

David, I want to thank you for sharing with us,
it has been a great pleasure!
