Synopsis
Based on a little known Mother Goose poem, The Cat and the Mouse played together happily
until the cat bit off the mouse's tail. Dr. Lockett took the simple poem and turned it into a cumulative
story that helps the mouse get his tail back. Pre-K students love the book as a read-aloud. Parents and
teachers can use the exciting and vivid illustrations by Taiwanese Artist, Lulu Yang to take children on a
"book walk" as they read the story. The predictable plot and repetition in the story make it enjoyable for
young readers.
The Cat and the Mouse is a bilingual picture book. This hardback book is in English on one side and in Chinese on the other. Each book comes with an audio CD with the story told in both languages. The CD is meant to help developing readers and new language learners. The book was released in Taiwan in 2009 and in the USA in 2010. The book has received the 2011 Dove Seal of Approval for All Ages because of its high quality and wholesomeness for young readers. Lulu Yang scanned fabric and used Photoshop to create illustrations and embedded numbers and letters in them to promote literacy. The illustrations follow the story line so well that non-readers and developing readers can do a 'book walk', looking at the pictures, and make accurate predictions of text as they read the book.

My Thoughts
Mouse has come to Cat asking for his tail to be returned to him. You see in the Mother Goose poem the cat bit off the tail of the mouse. This story has a similar sing song tail, I mean tale as the Mother Goose poem. The mouse has to go on quite a journey visiting many characters along the way in order to get his tail back.
The Storyteller tells a fun tale that children and adults will enjoy reading over and over. The audible CD that is included will provide even more entertainment. The author presents the story in English and Chinese which I found a major plus towards a child education into learning another language. Then there is the unique illustrations created with fabric which depicts the tale to perfection. Young readers will be able to pick up on the story even if they can't read because the illustrations tend to talk for themselves. But you will definitely be eager to read this book to your little ones.
I can't wait to share more of his books with you and I have several of them coming up this month of May 2013.
I highly recommend this book.
I rated this book 5 out of 5.
Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book the author for review. I was in no way compensated for this review. This review is my honest opinion.
