My Thoughts

Jake's mess reminds me of my youngest daughter's good intents at cleaning her room.  Jake had some brilliant ideas for organizing his things that ended up overwhelming his good intentions.   Thankfully his family and friends knew Jake meant well and was not just being mischievous.   

Just reading the story I became overwhelmed for poor little Jake! With some children a few suggestions and overseeing the project with patience seems to be the key. Making it fun using some of their ideas meets with rewarding success!

From my own experience I especially found sorting through the childs clothes and toys while they were at school, boxing the stuff up for donations was of great help  in cutting down a stressful situation. This kept my children from having to make monumental decisions.  They never even seemed to notice anything was missing. If they did notice I simply explained why it was donated or discarded.  My children are now wonderful parents with children of their own!

Great book in which I am sure most children and parents will connect.  Good story to read with your kids and share ideas and past experiences. Be sure to make it fun and not accusatory. 

I recommend this book! 

I rated this book a 4 out of 5.  Mainly due to the fact it was somewhat overwhelming.

About the Author: Emlyn Chand

My Thoughts

Sammy and Lisa have been together since they first laid eyes on each other at the pet store where Sammy was with her mother and siblings.  It was love at first sight and maybe the beautiful way Sammy sang to Lisa. 

One night after the two of them watched a  talent show on television Sammy got a brilliant idea to enter the Talent Show at the Sydney Opera House.  But he did not tell Lisa. In fact Sammy decided to get some of his Dove bird friends to help him find his way to the talent show.

Me being a grandmother I don't think this was such a brilliant idea! How about you?   What would Lisa think of Sammy leaving his cage and the safety of the apartment? After all he has never flewn outdoors much less with any of his friends.  But he was so excited and just knew he had the talent to win. No doubt he wanted to surprise Lisa.

The author has given us a good lesson to be learned.  Think before you act.  In my opinion if Sammy was keeping it a secret from Lisa then he must have known deep down that it was not a good idea. Or did he?  

You will fall Iin love with Sammy as much as I have or more. Maybe you connect with this story as you remember one of your own bird brain ideas!

The illustrations depict the story so well and will stir everyones imagination into this wild and crazy bird brain adventure with Sammy.

I have read this book before but this time I read it with a whole new perspective.

I highly recommend this book.

My Thought

One then a total of five little chooky chicks working so hard to pull a worm from the ground. Then they enlist the rooster to help them pull.  

Cock-a-doddle-doo what will they do?

With all this pulling what could be making this worm cling so tight in the ground?  Could the worm be wrapped tightly around  a rock?  What kind of worm is this?

I thought these little chicks were so cute and very determined to have this worm out of the ground. They also showed great teamwork!  It reminds me of the old saying, "Try and try again!".

I very much enjoyed the rhyme and rhythm of this tale and let me not forget the major cuteness of the coloful illustrations!

I highly recommend this book!

About Author/Illustrator

Ashley Spires grew up in Tsawwassen, BC and after stints living in Toronto and Saskatoon, she now lives in Ladner, having made an educated decision to never move from BC again. She is the creator of the Binky The Space Cat series of junior graphic novels, which have earned her numerous awards, including the Silver Birch Express and the Hackmatack. Her picture books, including Larf, Small Saul and The Most Magnificent Thing, are known for providing readers, young and old, with a good laugh.

My Thoughts

A darling little girl decides she along with her dog will make a magnificent thing.  She creates many things but in her minds eyes they are all wrong. She becomes so very frustrated and angry. Then she gets a magnificent idea for the most magnificent thing!

You must see it for yourself.  It is MAGNIFICENT!

This little girl is one determined little inventor. How gifted she is to be able to create something so useful. Even her rejects were found to be useful to others.

I found the illustraions absolutely adorable.  My grandkids are going to enjoy this little girl's creativity and determination.

I highly recommend this book!

My Thoughts

There is terrible smell on Frog Pond and it is coming from Bubbles. His friends insist he stops this horrible smell. They suggest he change his diet to no avail he still had foul smelling bubbles. Will they shun him from the pond?  He is very sad and suffering not only from stinky bubbles he felt no self respect for himself. 

One day he could hear his friends scream for help.  He forgot all about being shunned and went to help his friends.

Will they let him help or will the send him away?  No matter he still wanted to help. What could be causing his friends to scream?  

What a horrible feeling to be unwanted due to something you have no control over.  Poor Bubbles!  

Grab a copy of this book to read if Bubbles can save his friends.

Margaret Wise Brown wrote hundreds of books and stories during her life, but she is best known for Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny. Even though she died nearly 60 years ago, her books still sell very well.

Margaret loved animals. Most of her books have animals as characters in the story. She liked to write books that had a rhythm to them. Sometimes she would put a hard word into the story or poem. She thought this made children think harder when they are reading.

She wrote all the time. There are many scraps of paper where she quickly wrote down a story idea or a poem. She said she dreamed stories and then had to write them down in the morning before she forgot them.

She tried to write the way children wanted to hear a story, which often isn't the same way an adult would tell a story. She also taught illustrators to draw the way a child saw things. One time she gave two puppies to someone who was going to draw a book with that kind of dog. The illustrator painted many pictures one day and then fell asleep. When he woke up, the papers he painted on were bare. The puppies had licked all the paint off the paper.

Margaret died after surgery for a bursting appendix while in France. She had many friends who still miss her. They say she was a creative genius who made a room come to life with her excitement. Margaret saw herself as something else - a writer of songs and nonsense.

  

My Thoughts

With Father's Day right around the corner this little picture book will stir a child's imagination as to the things fathers do for and with them out of love.  In this book animals are the fathers and it is fun to see  and read about their paternal connection with their children within the animal kingdom.

What are some of your childhood memories with your father that left you knowing he loved you?  Have you seen any animals making this special connection?

It does not have to be Father's Day to make special memories out of love with your father. So make some special memories!

This story will stir up special memories for both adults and children.

My Thoughts

Captain No Beard knows he can count on his crew to pull their weight but that does not necessarily mean it always goes smoothly. Especially for the newest member of the crew, cabin girl Cayla. 

While distracted watching the chaos growing on deck the Captain hears someone crying and immediately goes to investigate.  After all being a captain is hard work. He and his crew have always been there for each other and today they would be there for Fribbet.

What in the world could Fribbet be so upset about that he could not stop crying long enough to tell them what was wrong?  Why is he crying about tadpoles?

This story is a good example of being team players and pulling together when one of your crew needs support.  

I choose this series and author over and over again as the go to children books for friends and family.  The author always goes beyond my expectations in her writings and generosity in the giveaways she offers on my blog and others.

I highly recommend this book

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015! I AM BACK!

 October 12th, 2014, my husband John left me to be with Christ Our Lord.

I want to thank all my family, friends and facebook friends for helping me get through the past couple of years. This was a difficult time for me and John. It was hard on him knowing any day could be his last. He knew he was ready and said his only sadness was he would miss out on so much with us and all our kids and grandkids and family and friends.

I could not think clearly for the past few months but now I must enter this new year of 2015 with a renewed spirit and am looking forward to what the Good Lord has in store for me.

2015!!!!
