Davey the Detective - The Bird Brain Books - written by Emlyn Chand, illustrated by Sarah Shaw

Davey the DetectiveAbout Book

Davey dubs himself the luckiest crow in the entire world when he finds a wonderful, shiny object. It even has a fantastic name: “paperclip.” Wow!

One dark and dreary day, Davey’s treasure goes missing, and he is beside himself with grief. Luckily, he knows just how he can find out which of the forest animals is to blame for the theft. Inspired by the torn pages of a Sherlock Holmes story that were used to fashion his nest, Davey calls on the help of Sarah the sparrow to investigate the mystery and, hopefully, retrieve his prize.

Together the two birds begin to collect clues. Their trail leads them straight to Mr. Bushtail, a greedy squirrel who keeps a giant store of objects in a hollowed-out tree trunk. When Mr. Bushtail refuses to cooperate, the two birds have no choice but to break into his tree house in search of the truth.

Justice will prevail and treasure will be found in this intriguing tale of mystery.

Davey the Detective is the second in a new series of color-illustrated books for children entitled The Bird Brain Books.

My Thoughts

Davey the crow was out foraging one day and found a beautiful shiny object. He couldn't wait to get it home.  When he got home he twisted the object each and every way he could.  He could even wear it as a bracelet.  As he began to get sleepy he decided to hide his treasure in his nest so it would be safe.  It was his most valued treasure!

The next morning as soon as his eyes opened he started digging around in the nest where he had hidden his treasure.  But to no avail he could not find his shiny treasure.  He assumes someone must have stolen his treasure.  When Sarah the sparrow showed up chirping and chattering away he told her someone had stolen his most precious treasure.   He decides they will take the roles of Sherlock Holmes, Davey of course and Sarah as his sidekick Watson.   They would start an investigation of the stolen treasure.  They ended up accusing some of their friends.  Wish was not very nice.

Will they be able to figure out who took Davey's treasure?  Will he continue to accuse more of his friends  hurting their feelings in the process?  Sarah realized this was not the way to find his treasure by offending his friends.

This is a darling book.  The author has a talent not of writing alone but of teaching.  Teaching a child about trust, definitely not to assume things, and to treat you neighbors with respect. Also that friends are to be valued.

I loved the characters especially the little cutie Sarah the sparrow.  She was a true friend.  Even  Mr. Whitetail was quite the gentleman even though his honor was being challenged.

The illustrator captured the little pair of detectives and their antics while investigating the missing treasure.  Also that of Mr. Whitetail and Mr. Bushtail and their habitats.

I highly recommend this book.

   I rated this book a 5 out of 5.

About Nana Susan

Susan Liberty Hall loves All Divine Creation. She is a patriot who also loves America and believes that our country is a God-Inspired Democracy that must be preserved and protected as such.
.

Susan was born in Los Angeles, California on May 28, 1945. When she was only three months old, her family relocated to Kemmerer, Wyoming, a small coal mining town in the southwestern corner of the state.

Through devotion to her own spiritual growth, good deeds and prayer, Susan has touched the lives of countless numbers of people, helping them improve their health and their emotional and spiritual well-being

Susan, her three brothers and parents moved into a condemned building in "Drunkard's Alley" in the center of town above her father's plumbing shop. Susan’s bed was the couch in the front room and her clothes closet was a toy chest. At age seven, she became a working member of the household, selling "chances to win" one of her mother Jessie's crocheted pillowcases. She also went from house to house selling greeting cards and children's records. At age nine, Susan started working in her father's plumbing shop on Saturdays. It was a very difficult life.

From the time she was a little girl, Susan always loved nature—trees, grass and flowers—and she tried desperately to make something, anything grow in Drunkard's Alley. She was always bringing home stray animals, caring for them and giving them the love that she craved herself.

Although Susan's education ended with high school graduation, she has always been an avid student of life, eagerly learning from a vast number of experiences worthy of several advanced degrees from the world's most esteemed educational institutions.

Susan is a person of wisdom, discernment, keen perception and above all, a listener and a doer. She has learned to "walk her talk," and understands how critically important it is that we act now to provide a safe environment for future generations.

As a grandmother, Susan considers herself "ordinary," but any observer would contest this. She is nothing short of an angel in human embodiment.

The goal of the book is to provide simple solutions for complex problems.

Some of Susan's solutions are: tithing, introducing our children to the many professions that can show them how to live in harmony with nature, and teaching them how to implement the basic rules of health.

It is Susan's prayer that as both children and adults read and speak the prayers and Holy Words of this book, miracles will happen.

Writes Susan: "If I can inspire or encourage just one child, then my work will have counted."

My Thoughts

This story takes you to a Fairyland of scents and smells of the Sacred Oils.  You will meet Nature Spirits, Fairies, Gnomes and Sylphs.  As the essential oils are released the guides will proclaim the powerful Hebrew Language in English and Hebrew.

Bible verses from the King James Bible will inspire your children and they will learn the importance of prayer.  They will also learn about tithing and the Tithing Seed.

The artwork and illustrations are of vibrant colors and the images are breathtaking.  The author and the artist come together as one to present a heavenly escape into an imaginary world of fairies and so much more.

I recommend this book.

My Thoughts

A young boy takes his pooch to the Vet because pooch would not stop scratching. The vet told him the dog had very rare fleas.  This got the boy worried.

What exactly kind of fleas did his pooch have?  These fleas were rare indeed.  Some dance, sing, preen and one that can even sketch!   They seem to be very talented and happy fleas.  How would they get rid of the fleas?  Do you think he should keep them after all they are very talented?

The author is very talented also she created such fun happy rhymes to describe these rare fleas.  How ever did she manage to find such talented fleas?   I am sure she had some help from Aardvart the very talented artist some also call an illustrator.  Aardvart was able to capture the fleas in this fun filled book just as Julia described them.  They work well together wouldn't you say?

I highly recommend this book.

I rated this book a 5 out of 5.

My Thoughts

Justin has lost his favorite hat! It is blue and white with orange stars all the way around the hat. The main reason it is his favorite hat is because his grandmother made it especially for him.  He just has to find his hat.

Justin and some of his friends looked all over the playground at school for his hat.  A friend told him it might be in the Lost and Found.  But everyone was afraid of Mr. Rumkowsky the janitor and he was in charge of the Lost and Found.  So instead of going to Lost and Found he searched all over his classroom and still had no luck finding his hat.  He was not ready to go to Lost and Found.  After several days of looking for the hat his mother reminded him to go to the Lost and Found.

OH, NO! That means he would have to face Mr. Rumkowsky.

Where could Justin find his hat?  Will he face Mr. Rumkowsky at Lost and Found?

The author's tale is one many children have to face at one time are another.  Like facing a teacher, librarian, principal or maybe even the janitor. He emphasizes on how kids feed on each others fear. When there is usually nothing there to fear but fear itself.  The illustrations are right on with the authors story.  The characters are realistic as is all the the lost and found depicted in the story.  It is a fun tale of many things lost and found.

I highly recommend this book.

My Thoughts

Maggie at age twelve has more responsibility than she is ready for.  Her sister has a fever and her newborn niece will not stop crying.  Maggie hears a ruckus outside just as her brother was entering the house, anxiously announcing the river was peaking and about to overflow into the town.  They rush around grabbing a few things so they can evacuate the area.  Her brother helps her sister and Maggie carries a sack of supplies and the bundled up baby.  They don't get very far when a wall of rushing water heads straight for them.

It is freezing cold, and no place looks safe.  After much praying and the help of strangers they thought God had pulled them through when the buildings surrounding them were threatened with fire.

Where will they go and how will they get there?  All seemed hopeless!  God is all powerful and loves his children surely he would save them.

This was a powerful story that would inspire not just the young, but also the old.  The author wrote about a horrific historical event that tore a town apart.  So many things that occurred in the story kept me on the edge of my seat and every once in a while I would have to grab a tissue.  God is what made this story powerful and gave Maggie hope. God surely must have been guiding Crystal Hoblit when she was writing this book.

I highly recommend this book.

My Thoughts

75 Bible Stories starting with Genesis 1, In the Beginning and the last story from 2 John 1:4-6, Love One Another.  Every bible story ends with Hug Time.  They will store up these stories and verses in their heart forever.  The illustrations will be pleasing to the child because the characters in the bible stories are illustrated as childlike images.  They will relate the story you are reading, to the illustrations they see.

Cuddle up with your child while you read them a bible story.

This book provides a little lesson in each story to peak the child's imagination and encourage them to share  their opinion and to ask questions about the story. Children will easily memorize verses and will want to repeat and share the stories from Bible Stories that End with a Hug!  Make sure you don't forget the HUGS.

I can't wait to share this book with my grandbabies.  I have no doubt the children will be very animated and will end the story-time with big HUGS and kisses.

I highly recommend this book.

I rated this book 5 hugs out of 5 hugs.
